Now that we have the new Simi Valley Town Center , why would you go over the hill or elsewhere to shop? Next time you think about shopping in other cities remember that:
- Sales tax is a major source of revenue for Simi Valley. Currently 26% of the City of Simi Valley's general fund is derived from sales tax.
- When purchases are made locally and sales tax is applied, your City receives 1% of the taxable sale. Purchases made outside of Simi Valley, for instance in the San Fernando Valley, Thousand Oaks, Camaillo and Onard Outlets generates no money for Simi but only pays the Police Depertment, fixing potholes, and youth programs in those cities.
- Sales tax revenue is the primary source of funding for projects, programs, and services that make Simi Valley a great community, such as an active Senior Center, an outstanding and well equiped Police force, and dynamic youth programs. This revenue also supplies funding for road maintenance throughout Simi Valley.
- When a resident buys a $30,000 vehicle from a Simi Valley dealership, $2,175 of sales tax is generated and your City receives $300 of that revenue.
- A family of four that eats out 24 times a year (twice a month) at restaurants located in Simi Valley and spends an average of $50 each meal, generates $87.00 in sales tax and your City receives $12.00.
- If you were to spend $4,000 a year on home improvement supplies at stores located in Simi Valley, $290 is generated in sales tax, of which your City receives $40.
