The plan to build a Target in Simi Valley is moving forward and dates have been set for construction.
Target is scheduled to appear before the Simi Valley Planning Commission to discuss the plans to build the Target store at the site of the old Kmart building at the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Madera Road, said Brian Gabler, Simi Valley's assistant city manager.
If approved, Target plans to begin demolishing the existing building on Oct. 1. Grading for the land is scheduled to begin on Nov. 1 and construction on Dec. 1. Gabler said Target's timeline has the new store opening in September 2009.
Gabler did not know if the new store would be a Target Greatland superstore or a regular Target. He also did not know if Target planned to close the existing Target on Cochran Street.
