Sarah Baxter, 'The Little Pony,' is running with the big dogs

Sarah Baxter was only 11 at the time, but she says she remembers watching Jordan Hasay glide effortlessly over the dirt trail, a cape of long blond hair trailing her in the wind.

That fleeting figure left quite an impression, though, and from that moment on Baxter decided she wanted to be just like Hasay, a University of Oregon sophomore who was a four-time state cross-country champion and competed at the 2008 Olympic trials while in high school.

New Simi Valley Council Members to be Sworn in

Come Monday, the Simi Valley City Council will have a decidedly different look.

Bob Huber, 67, will be sworn in to a two-year term as the city’s new mayor. He previously served on the council in 1980-84 and was elected Nov. 2 to succeed Paul Miller, 73, who is retiring after 16 years on the council, including three terms as mayor.

Mike Judge, 47, will be sworn in to a four-year term as a freshman member of the council. He finished second in a field of six candidates for two council seats, unseating Councilwoman Michelle Foster, 48, who came in fourth.

Councilman Glen Becerra, 43, easily won re-election to a fourth four-year term, finishing first. He, too, will be sworn in Monday.
